Our Favorite Holiday Comics From DC
Posted on December 8, 2011 by PopFunk
Everyone gets excited about this time of year, and it's no different here at Popfunk. Forget building snowmen. Leave the sled in the garage. Give us some sugar cookies, a blanket, and a stack of holiday comics and we'll be set straight through the New Year. Here are some of our faves from DC. DC Infinite Holiday Special
In this holiday issue, Superman plans to impersonate Santa Claus to prove to a young boy that he is real... Until Batman convinces him there are more heroic acts to partake in. Though Superman agrees, he decides to deliver the presents to the boy anyway. And who should he see the young kids screaming for when he gets there? Batman as... Santa Claus.
DC Universe Holiday Special 2008
This one includes 10 stories with some of the DC's greatest superheroes. Holiday action from classic good guys like Superman, Supergirl, Batman & Robin, Green Lantern and more.
The Night the Mob Stole X-Mas
Released in March 1979, this holiday comic features Batman and Plastic Man working together to defend Christmas against a crew of greedy mobsters.
Christmas 'Round the World
Superman spends this issue reuniting refugee children with their families and learns how other cultures celebrate Christmas in the process.
Merry Christmas, Justice League of America... Now Die!
Santa Claus joins the world's greatest superheroes in this holiday comic. Sounds innocent enough, right? But judging from the cover, it looks like the Justice League might regret its decision to let someone new into the group after all....
So those are a few of our favorite holiday comics. What about you? Which issues do you reach for to get your fill of crime-fighting, yule tide cheer?

Victoria's Secret Supermodels Become Superheroes
Posted on December 1, 2011 by PopFunk
Supermodel met Superhero in the 2011 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which aired Tuesday night on CBS. Of all the night's runway looks- which included passion, aquatic, ballet and more- the superhero segment stole our attention. Nerds across the country squirmed as some of the most beautiful women in the world gave meaning to the term Super Angels. Their outfits did not represent specific famed superheroes, but were merely inspired by the comic book characters. We definitely wouldn't have a problem with these girls fighting crime in next to bare ensembles. Check out the before and after images below, from concept sketch to final product. What do you guys think of the Victoria's Secret Supermodels as Superheroes?

And because we just can't get enough of Adriana Lima (especially dressed as a superhero)...

In the last 41 years, San Diego Comic Con International has established itself as the preeminent comic convention in the United States (not to mention fourth largest in the world), boasting over 130,000 attendees in 2010. However, New York Comic Con, SDCC’s East Coast counterpart since 2006, continues to make its bid for biggest US geek gathering with this weekend’s convention. Expecting to eclipse last year’s attendance mark of 96,000 happy comic enthusiasts, the 2011 New York Comic Con will enlist over 700 exhibitors and 400 artists. Among the participating exhibitors staking a claim on the Jacob Javits Center this weekend are Activision, Capcom, Dark Horse, DC, Hasbro, Marvel and Mattel. Notable artists include Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, Frank Miller and Kevin Smith. Also appearing to throughout the weekend will be Eliza Dushku, Mark Hamil, Rose McGowan, Jason Momoa, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, and the entire cast of Paramount’s upcoming Avengers movie. Organizers have also landed a first time sponsor in Chevrolet, who plan to make its consumer debut of the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic at the convention. Ticket packages for NYCC are still available at www.newyorkcomiccon.com. Killer comic t shirts that will make you the envy of every other fanatic at the convention are still available at www.popfunk.com.

MTV Declares October "Axe Cop Month"
Posted on October 11, 2011 by PopFunk
Of all the comic t shirts that we print, one of our favorites is Axe Cop. So we were delighted by the glowing review Axe Cop received from MTV this week! In a write-up of the new Munchkin Axe Cop card game (to be released next month), MTV declared, “October is Axe Cop Month.” They’ll certainly get no argument here!
The hit collaboration between 29-year-old comic artist, Ethan Nicolle, and his 5-year-old brother, Malachai Nicolle, will see its new trade paperback, Axe Cop: Bad Guy Earth, officially hit the shelves next week. And of course, Popfunk currently has a dozen fine Axe Cop shirts that you can’t find elsewhere.
August, September, Axe Cop, November, December... Yeah, sounds good to us!

Top 10 Comic Book Costumes
Posted on September 21, 2011 by PopFunk
By Mike Dutkewych For most of us, the opportunity to get decked out in bright colored spandex or beta-particle-powered exoskeleton comes but once a year: Halloween. And every Halloween, superhero (and super-villain) costumes are among the most popular for guys and girls alike. Here’s a look at our Top 10 Comic Book Costumes.Men's Costumes
1. Superman What else can be said about the ever-popular Man of Steel? A superhero who never goes out of style.
2. Batman
Despite the runaway success of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight, and the mounting anticipation for the final installment of his trilogy, the Caped Crusader just can’t oust the Last Son of Krypton out of the top spot.
3. Spiderman
Thankfully, the radioactive spider is not a required accessory.
4. Captain America
The First Avenger; the fourth most popular comic book costume.
5. Joker
Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson both put their respective stamps on one of the greatest comic book villains of all-time. Cop some green hair dye, a ratty three-piece suit and a deck of cards, and you can too.
6. Green Lantern
The Green Lantern’s power ring is one of the most powerful weapons in the universe. Wear responsibly.
7. Iron Man
What would Tony Stark do? Besides create a powered exoskeleton to save his own life and eventually, the world, he’d probably cue up Black Sabbath before he entered a room.
8. Wolverine
Recommended for fans of razor sharp claws, or any dude with a widow’s peak and big chops.
9. Punisher
The lazy man’s comic costume. All you need is a menacing skull t-shirt, and a thirst for revenge.
10. The Hulk
Embrace your inner rage-fueled humanoid monster.
Women's Costumes
1. Wonder Woman The most iconic female superhero and the most popular women’s costume. Her Lasso of Truth is an accessory I’m sure most ladies wish they carried year ‘round.
2. Catwoman
Originally portrayed in the ‘40s wearing no disguise at all, the most memorable depictions of this villainess’ outfit has her donning a skintight leather catsuit and whip.
3. Supergirl
As the Man o’ Steel’s super cousin, this beautiful Kyptonian is always a favorite costume for the girls.
4. Batgirl
Driven career woman by day, fierce crime fighter by night.
5. Poison Ivy
That girl is poison. Literally.
6. Storm
This reigning queen of Wakanda was one of Halle Berry’s more successful comic book endeavors. Especially compared to her cringe worthy work in the catsuit.
7. Jean Grey
Omega-level mutant, one of the original X-Men, and physical manifestation of Phoenix Force. Mess with this girl and she’ll rearrange your atoms.
8. Harley Quinn
As girlfriend and accomplice of the Joker, sporting this seditious villainess’ harlequin jester suit will surely score you points for creativity.
9. Rogue
This X-Men mutant has the power to absorb the psyche, skills and physical characteristics of anyone she touches. Unless you also share that ability, you’ll have to settle for dressing like her.
10. Tank Girl
This babe is known for driving a tank and dating a mutated kangaroo. Sounds like what my ex-girlfriend is up to now.
