The History of Plastic Man
Quality Comics really stretched the truth when they introduced Plastic Man in 1941, a superhero who can elongate his body to take any form. Plastic Man was created by legendary cartoonist Jack Cole. His adventures were often offbeat and funny. When Quality Comics shut down in 1956, DC Comics acquired many of its characters and integrated Plastic Man into the DC Universe. The stretchable character was originally a crook named Patrick “Eel” O’Brian who fell into a drum full of acid. Plastic Man, who wears a patented red and yellow jumpsuit, was asked to join the Justice League of America by Batman to replace Elongated Man. Plastic Man’s popularity is obvious: He’s been featured in countless DC Comics series, comic books, TV shows, movies and video games.
