The History of Dragon's Lair

When Dragon’s Lair hit U.S. arcades in the early 80s, it slayed the inferior competition. Tapping into the power of the newly created Laserdisc technology, Dragon’s Lairgave gamers an experience unlike any other available at that time. The Video Game, which was animated by ex-Disney animator Don Bluth, revolved around Dirk The Daring and his mission to save Princess Daphne from the evil dragon Singe. The Dragon’s Lair game was completely animated, with the player executing the action by selecting a direction or pressing the sword button at just the right time. Dragon’s Lair is considered a Historic Video Game, having led to countless spinoffs (such as its companion game Space Ace) and even an animated series. Today, it has been repackaged in a number of formats—including for the iPhone—as a Retro Video Game.
