The History of Kojak
Few characters are more etched in the minds of television fans than Kojak, the bald-headed New York City Police Detective famously played by Telly Savalas. Kojak first aired on CBS in fall of 1973 and soon became a popular 70s Television Show. Kojak’s Greek American heritage, shared by Savalas himself, was prominently featured in the long-running TV Crime Drama. The show focused on the efforts of the hard-nosed and unshakeable TV Crimefighter Lieutenant Theo Kojak, a tenacious cop from the streets who would stop at nothing to get his man. Rarely caught without a lollipop in hand, Kojak would often utter his famous catchphrase: “Who loves ya, baby?”
