The History of Quantum Leap
Driven by a consistent formula and an easy-on-the-eyes leading man, Quantum Leap jumped to the top of the Nielsen ratings when it first aired in 1989. The NBC Series starred Scott Bakula as Dr Sam Beckett, a physicist who gets lost in time during an experiment and must temporarily take the place of other people to put right what once went wrong. Every episode of Quantum Leap ended with Bakula waking up in a new body, an often hilarious scenario that was always met with Sam replying “Oh, boy.” Sam’s guide on his journeys through time was Al, a womanizing, cigar-smoking sidekick who appeared as a hologram that only Sam could see and hear. Quantum Leap’s mix of comedy, drama, nostalgia and science fiction won it a wide legion of fans, many of whom were sad to see the NBC Series go after five seasons in 1993.
