The History of The Six Million Dollar Man
With the debut of The Six Million Dollar Man in 1974 came the birth of a 70s Television and pop culture icon: Lee Majors. The Action Television Series about a former astronaut with bionic implants and superhuman abilities turned Majors into Hollywood’s leading Action Adventure star. Majors played the title role of Steve Austin, a character taken from the novel Cyborg by Martin Caidan. Following three TV movies, ABC aired The Six Million Dollar Man regularly for four seasons to a large TV audience of both men and women. The Six Million Dollar Man’s success led to a spinoff called The Bionic Woman.
