Roy Orbison History
The late rock ‘n’ roll legend Roy Orbison has remained a pop icon over the decades. The American singer-songwriter is well-known for his distinctive style, including dark glasses and black pompadour hair style, powerful voice, and emotional ballads. Roy Orbison was a pioneer of the rock ‘n’ roll genre. He grew up in Texas and began singing in a rockabilly band in high school until he was signed by Sun Records in Memphis. He first hit the charts in 1956 with Ooby Dooby. The song remained one of his signature tunes throughout a career spanning four decades. Some of Roy Orbison’s best know songs included Only the Lonely, Crying, In Dreams, Oh, Pretty Woman, Blue Bayou, Running Scared, and You Got It. Rolling Stone placed Roy Orbison at No. 37 in their list of The Greatest Artists of All Time.
