The History of Word Girl

Word Girl is an alien with superpowers whose secret identity is 5th grade student Becky Botsford. The endearing heroine was born on the Planet Lexicon but was sent away after falling asleep on a spaceship. Captain Huggy Face, a monkey who was a pilot in the Lexicon Air Force, piloted the ship, but lost control. When Word Girl awoke, the duo crash-landed on Earth, now residing in Fair City where Word Girl utilizes her super-human strength to save her adoptive home. Word Girl and Captain Huggy Face fight crime while promoting strong language skills and expand the vocabulary of children and adults. The show, targeted to grade school students, began as a series of shorts that premiered on PBS, usually shown at the end of animated kids show Maya and Miguel. The segment was then spun off into a new thirty-minute episodic series. Word Girl is shown regularly on PBS Kids.
