BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP
The History of Baa Baa Black Sheep
Based on the life of legendary Marine Corps aviator Pappy Boyington and his Black Sheep Squadron, Baa Baa Black Sheep aired on NBC from 1976 until 1978. The opening credits of Baa Baa Black Sheep memorably said that Boyington led a “collection of misfits and screwballs who became the terrors of the South Pacific.” Though NBC sold the TV military drama as historical fiction, it was short on history and was often ridiculed for its entertaining yet unbelievable action sequences and factual inaccuracies. Baa Baa Black Sheep, which was renamed Black Sheep Squadron for its third and final season, starred Robert Conrad as the fearless Major Boyington.
